ABA Program

What is ABA?

ABA refers to Applied Behavior Analysis. Applied Behavior Analysis studies how behavioral principles address problem behavior. Based on Dr. Ivar Lovaas studies, the ABA method (or Lovass method) is a pioneering treatment for autism.

Sometimes called Discrete Trial Training, ABA is structure around short drills called Discrete Trials.

Discrete Trial Training (DTT) is a prominent teaching technique in which every new skill to be introduced is break down into smaller, more manageable components.

Positive reinforcement is used throughout the teaching to ensure that skills learned will continue to be repeated.

How the ABA program works?

Most children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Related Disabilities need intensive therapy. Ideally it is important to start at an early age.

ABA intervention is performed 1:1 in the child's home or as a Shadow Aide in the classroom setting.

ABA home tutors can provide 2 and up to 40 hours/week in your home.

Although ABA home tutors are usually less qualified than:

Applied Behavior Analysts, Speech Language Pathologist and Occupational Therapists, not everyone is qualified to provide this service and it is important to choose someone with experience in the field.

How CHEM/IABA Program works?

The child is evaluated and a program developed for implementation by an ABA Analyst associated with CHEM. To follow and implement the program, CHEM provides a qualified ABA home tutor and will manage the program to assure compliance with programs goals. Periodical evaluations and reports to parents will be issue and program may be updated and modified.
