To prepare students for a career in medical assisting. The administrative duties of a medical assistant are to receive patients in a professional and friendly manner, to perform numerous office duties and public relations functions, and sometimes to administer first aid. The clinical responsibilities of a medical assistant include a variety of duties such as helping patients prepare for examinations, assisting the doctor, cleaning and sterilizing instruments and equipment, and assisting in emergency situations.

Objective

Medical assisting is a multi-skilled allied health profession whose practitioners work primarily in ambulatory settings such as medical offices and clinics. Medical assistants function as members of the health care delivery team and perform administrative and clinical procedures.

Flex program schedule

The flex program consists of classes that typically meet one day a week for eight hours daily for 45 weeks, during the same time one course is completed in an online format. In the final portion of the program, students complete an externship component totaling 240 hours – a minimum of 22.5 hours per week or a maximum of 40 hours per week to be completed within 8 weeks. Externship hours are attended Monday through Friday during daytime hours. Normal completion time for the entire program is 53 weeks excluding vacation periods and holidays.
