Day2. Drive to Harar. (500km)

In the morning after breakfast drive to the Eastern direction and pass at first through the east African rift valley and the Awash national park. This region is known by its first grade of Ethiopian coffee production. It takes at least 10 hours’ drive hours to Harar. O/N hotel in Harar.

Day3. Full day visit the old city of Harar

You have a full day to explore the old city of Harar and its surrounding. Harar was Once a very powerful and important commercial muslim city center between 10th and 15th century in the eastern part of Ethiopia and is known as one of the holiesst muslim place in Ethiopia due to its several old aged mosques. The old city walls of Harar, museum, Rainbow house (French poiet house), the colourful harar market, the old Ader’s house inside in the wall are signhtworthy to be visited in Harar. Day03. Drive to Mount Fentale and the Palm hot spring.

Start driving to the foothills of mount Fentale where you can begin the five hours’ trek to the volcano. Then drive back to the beautiful natural spa or palm pool with picnic lunch. From there drive to the remote Sabure typical Afar peoples market if the day is Saturday where they have separate cattle and commodity market. After taking the picnic lunch at the hot springs drive to lake Beseka near the Hyena Cave to see the Hyena’s leave the cave here one can see a minimum of twenty to thirty Hyena while enjoying the aquatic birds at lake Beseka including the rare Pink Flamingoes. Then drive back to Awash National Park. O/N lodge or hotel in Awash.

Day04. Drive to Harar.

Day2: Fly to Mekele and drive to Hammd Ela, Beginning the tour to Danakil Desert.

Early in the morning after breakfast transfer to airport to fly to Mekelle and meet the vehicle and guide at the airport and short break coffee bars in Mekelle. Then continue driving to Hammed Ela. At Berhale where we arrange the permits and police escort. On the way you will also admire some local Tigrean and Afar tribe’s village and camel caravan carrying the salt bars to transport it to the nearest local town. O/N camp or hotel in Hammed Ela.

Day3: Hammed Ela – Dodome – Erta Ale

In the morning drive to Dodome. Here we will arrange camels to transport your luggage and water, and then you will start hiking to the Erta Ale Volcanic hills (613 meters above sea level) which is 15km one way, and walk to see the volcanic eruption. The eruption is so colorful and spectacular. At night, we will camp nearby the eruption, on the crater rim above the active lava lake. O/N camp in Erta Ale.

Day4: More excursions in Dodom and drive back to Hammad Ela.

Climbing again early in the morning to the rim to see the sun set., then drive to Hammed Ela. Late afternoon visit camel caravan. O/N camp in Hammed Ela.

Day5: Excursion to Daloll depression drive back to Mekele.

After early breakfast drive to the Lake Asale, salty Lake and visit the salt workers and the merchant, then head to Dallol/Denakil Depression, which listed as the hottest and active place on the earth surface with an average temperature of 40 – 50 degrees Celsius. Then drive back to Mekelle. O/N hotel in Mekele.

Day6: Fly back to Addis.

Morning after breakfast transfer to airport for flight back to Addis Ababa. Evening fair well dinner and transfer to airport for departure.

Day02. Drive to Awash national park.

You drive 250 km south of Addis Ababa towards the east direction through the great east African rift valley and stop at Debre Zeit where you can visit one of the crater lake in the rift valley and drive to Awash national park to spot the wild life like Oryx, Gazelle, monkey and different species of birds. O/N Awash falls lodge in Awash.

Day03. Drive to Afdera.

In the morning after breakfast start to drive and cross the Awash river bridge and face the junction road where the road forks, straight ahead for Dire Dawa and Harar, and left for Djibouti and the red sea. This day you wonder the rift valley scenery and the Afar people and their village. Lunch at Samara and process your entrance permission and also from here you will have two police men and one road guide accompany you for the Afar depression and continue to Afdera. O/N camping at side of lake Afdera or local hotel.

Day04. Drive to Kusrewad and Erta Ale.

Drive to Kusrewad where you arrange the camel to ascend our logistics and for those who wish to ride, local militia and rock guide apart from those who already with you. Late afternoon start walking to Erta Ale volcano and overnight on the top of the mountain. Erta Ale is 116-meter-high, with a lava lake, one of only five in the world, at the summit. It is notable for being the longest existing lava lake since the early years of the twentieth century. O/N camp in Erta Ale.

Day05. Drive to Hammed Ela.

Around 9 am you will be at foot base of the volcano mountain where your cook and cars camp have your breakfast and drive to Hammed Ela via Kursewad. This day drive will be most challenging drive of all day which may be happen to stuck in the sand and inhospitable weather. You should keep rehydrate yourself to manage the driving. O/N camp in Hammed Ela.

Day06. Excursion to Dallol Sulphur spring, lake Assale salt Bar and camel caravan.

Excursion to Dallol (116 meter below sea level, one of the lowest place on our planet) colorful salts mining, visit Lake Assale, follow up camel caravans and walk with the Afar and people from the highland. The traditional way of extracting salt bar, which once used as local currency, packing on the camel to transport to the highland part of Ethiopia and finally you drive back to Hammed Ela. O/N camp in Hammed Ela.

Day07. Hammed Ela-Mekel.

Drive to mekele and on your way, you will have a photo stop at every view point including the camel caravan photo stop that they transport the salt from the Danakil desert to the highland part of the country for further distribution to every corner of the country. Because this the main source of salt extraction place in Ethiopia for the last hundred years. O/N hotel in Mekele.

Day8. Fly from mekele to Addis ababa.

In the evening before your flight, you have a farewell dinner party in one of Ethiopian traditional restaurant.
