What is Psoriaisis?
Psoriasis is a skin condition in which our skin gets thick and red, usually resulting in silvery or white scales called plaques. Psoriasis can show up on the eyelids, ears, mouth, lips, skin folds, hands, feet, scalp, face, nails, and even genitals. Psoriasis is surely not contagious, but can be itch and affect our daily lives. Although the current science cannot explain the exact cause of psoriasis, there are suspected contributing factors to the disease including genetics, environmental, smoking, alcohol abuse, and Vitamin D deficiency.
Although the complications show up on the skin, the real problem is happening underneath the skin. Our immune system is activated by unknown cause and it continuously tells our skin to grow very rapidly, causing thickening of the skin with the scaly build-up composed of dead skin cells that didn’t get a chance to be cleared away.
