Veolia Water/Town of Plymouth, Plymouth, MA
Aztec upgraded the plant SCADA system for the 3 MGD Grade 6 facility. The project consisted of:
  • Replacement of 3 SCADA computers
  • Conversion of SCADA software to the current version
  • Conversion of remote alarm notification software
  • Clean-up of nuisance alarms
  • Development of additional trends and run-timers for reporting (on-going)
  • Lead/lag pump control (on-going)

The project was completed on time, on budget, and was accomplished without any plant down time, disruption to plant operations, or loss of data. The client retains Aztec as a consultant for on-going automation support through 2010.

MWRA Water Treatment – Deer Island, Boston, MA
Prior to joining Aztec as the VP of Engineering, James Grace worked as a direct employee of the MWRA. He was a key contributor during the design, programming, testing, commissioning, start-up, and eventual ownership of the ~20,000 I/O $24 million plant wide control system. The control system foundation is a Bailey Infi90 DCS with a redundant fiber-optic network and communicates to a multitude of PLCs from all of the major PLC vendors. Jim worked closely with the lead design engineer (M&E), developing and implementing new advanced control strategies designed to allow the plant to be operated by fewer people, improve plant performance, maximize plant utilization during wet weather flow events, and minimize energy usage during all flow conditions. These advanced control strategies included process/equipment modeling and constraint control based algorithms.


Shell Norco, St. Charles, LA
Before joining Aztec several engineers now at Aztec collaborated on the design and engineering of a 20,000 point catalytic cracking refinery. The project consisted of:
  • 20,000 point Honeywell TDC2000 DCS
  • Plant/Refinery Automation
The project was completed on time, on budget, and in scope. The plant continues to successfully product hydrocarbon by-products on its 1,000 acre campus
