Population: Ethiopia is the second populous country in Africa next to Nigeria. According to the latest Ethiopian population census estimation (2017),100 million people live in Ethiopia. Almost half of its population are Ethiopian Christian Orthodox followers and 35 percent of its populations are also Muslim followers whereas 10 percent are protests and Catholics and the rest of them are some traditional African religious followers. The major ethnic/linguistic groups are the Oromo (33%), Amhara (27%) Tigrai (6%), Sidamo (9%) and Somali (5%) and the rest is other ethnic tribes in the west and southern part of the country.

Economy

Ethiopian economy is more or less depending on agriculture. Its main export products are coffee, hide and skin, Gold, oilseeds, spice, Rosa flower. Coffee accounts almost 60% of Ethiopian’s export. But, despite the international renown for its coffee, is Ethiopia till rest time one of the poorest country in sub-Saharan Africa. But the last two-decades Ethiopias’ economy grew very fast in a daynamic nature with 10 % digit every year, which has nerver been experienced else where in the world.

Geography

Ethiopia is situated in northeast Africa, bordered by Eritrea, Sudan, Kenya, Somalia and Djibouti. It covers an area of 1,127,708 square kilometers, which is the 10th largest country in Africa and 26th largest contry in the world. The central area is a vast highland region of volcanic rock forming a watered, temperate zone surrounded by hot, arid, inhospitable desert. The country is bisected by the Rift Valley, which starts at the Red Sea in Palestine, to the North East, and continues south to Mozambique in southern Africa. The escarpments on either side of the country are steepest in the north where the terrain is very rugged. To the south, the landscape is generally flatter and more suited to agriculture.

Geographically Ethiopia is stunning. The landscape is dominated by the dramatic Ethiopian Highlands with peaks of 4000m or higher. The two major mountain ranges are the Simien Mountains (a World Heritage Site), in the north of the country; and the Bale Mountains to the east of the Rift Valley, in the southern highlands.

Due to this all the above facts Ethiopia known as roof of Africa, from which many international cross boundary rivers flow out. The major rivers include the Blue Nile, in the northwest; and the Baro to the west (Gambella), which feeds the White Nile in Uganda, and ultimately joins the Blue Nile in Sudan. The Wabe Shebelle courses through southeast from the Bale Mountains into Somalia. The Omo River starts in the western highlands and feeds Lake Turkana on the Kenyan border. The Awash feeds a series of desert lakes to the east of the country near the Djibouti border.

Fauna and flora

Ethiopia is one of the multi bio diversified country in the world. Exceeding 7000 plant species are so far discovered in Ethiopia and 12% of it are endemic plant species whereas 862 bird species are already recorded in Ethiopia and 30 of them are endemic and found only in Ethiopia.

Climate

Due to its vast variety of landscape features, from highlands to desert, it naturally follows that climates are also very varied Hot and humid in the lowlands, warm in the hill country and cool in the uplands. Its main rain season starts from the half of June to the half of September: the Eastern lowlands and the far south are dry and hot. The western lowlands are moist and hot. The Rift Valley to the south is temperate to hot and seasonally moist. Therefore, it is possible to experience frost, and even snow in the mountains, or dry soaring temperatures in the desert all in one trip.
