If it is possible to inhale rock music, infusing it with mystery yet with raw emotion, and then exhale this mix to produce an entirely new creation, LA-based couturier, Sterling Capricio, has achieved this through his provocative fashion designs. The Chicago native trained at the renowned Art Institute of Chicago and later in the self-taught school of nouveau couture.

Sterling Capricio’s style is a mix of performance art and couture, a fusion of the improvisational hip jacket and the carefully crafted opera coat. Drawing from his musical background as a former guitar player in a rock band, Capricio splices edginess and vulnerability with the uncanny, creating a signature style he labels, Gothic-Soul. His designs are what a soul-searching guitar riff would look like. Or more palatable, what the design team of Marilyn Manson paired with Prince would conjure up--an electrifying dark cloud atop a rainbow.

This revolutionary designer rarely plays it safe. “I have to take chances, that is the only way I know how to do what I do. If I did not take chances I would not be a designer, I would be a manufacturer.” From the dangerously sensual designs that define his Sterling Capricio Couture line, to the blend of LA charm, Miami sassiness, and Parisian chic reflected in his signature line, Sterling, Capricio’s pieces find residence in his Los Angeles boutique and a number of other high-end specialty stores across the country.

Original pieces from Sterling Capricio’s Studio Services division, frequented by celebrity stylists and wardrobe departments, have taken form on beautiful, high-profile bodies such as Grace Potter from the Nocturnals, Pamela Anderson, Fantasia, LaLa Velasquez, Kelis, Patricia Arquette, Taraji Henson, Rosyln Sanchez, Carrie Ann Inaba, Serena Williams, Patti LaBelle, Kim Kardashian, Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon, Lana Parilla, Kellita Smith, Tamara Braun, Yolanda Adams, Sheila E., Tyra Banks, Lisa Raye, Daryl Hannah, Lisa Marie Preseley, Kelly Clarkson, and Meagan Goode. In addition to designing for celebs, and the everyday “It Girl, Sterling has designed wardrobe for costume houses in film and theater. In Chicago he worked with costumers at Second City, and in Los Angeles he designed costumes for “Sang Sista’ Sang “ a play produced by Motown greats Mickey Stevenson and Smoky Robinson , directed by Lony Stevenson, that featured the characters , Dorothy Dandridge, Josephine Baker, and Bessie Smith and toured nationally.

Sterling Capricio, a natural born artist and giver, actively participates in fashion shows for charitable causes, including the Fashion for a Cure event benefiting the Susan G.
