  • How Gems affect a person? (Meta physics)

Gems and precious minerals have been in use from time immemorial as a very valuable source which used by royal families, nobles, women and men to adorn themselves or to decorate and add value to the items that they use in their daily life. The world of colourful gems is endlessly fascinating. Since ancient times, coloured stones have been thought to possess certain magical powers or the ability to bestow the wearer with certain attributes.

All the living or non-living entities in this universe have a link to the white bright light that is composed of seven rays which we all have seen in the rainbow. In the scientific world this bundle of seven rays known as VIBGYOR comprises the colors violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange, and red. In one of the ancient Indian Spiritual scriptures known as "Kurma Purana", the seven planets are to be seen as a grouping of the seven cosmic rays. Other than in a rainbow we can not see these seven cosmic rays without the aid of a prism. A well facetted and polished gem can do the same to gather the energy of these cosmic rays.

In Vedic astrology or in most of the metaphysical subjects it indicates that gems affect the human body, giving either negative or positive effects. Astrologically they have the potential to increase the inherent capacity of a particular gem for a particular planet. They are generally worn with jewellery but mainly to enhance health, wealth, power and popularity. In the history there are numerous stories about how Kings and queens used to collect the best of gems to protect themselves from evil, omens, ill health, to stay in power and also for increasing longevity.

The rationale and purpose of gems would depend on the characteristics, color and vibrations of planets as most of the major important gems can be attributed to one of the Planets. The color and the size of the gems also play a major role and influence the person who wears and others who sees the brilliance of the gem studded ring, bracelet or the necklace.

Every gem has the power to absorb the radiation emitted by a particular planet. Therefore, in order to receive its benefits, the gem pertaining to the particular planet should be worn. Wearing gemstones according to one's birth chart is a fundamental theory of Vedic astrology and in India the majority of people wear at least one or two gems on their hand or around their neck or wrist. Astrologers differ somewhat in their methods of prescribing gemstones but there are certain clearly agreed upon principles.

The native should avoid the use of gems related to malefic planets in the horoscope. It is always advisable to use the gem which is related to the strongest planet of your horoscope. This holds true even during the Mahadasa and Antardasa of the malefic planet.

The general practice is to wear the gemstone that corresponds to the lord of the first house, the most important house of a horoscope. By doing this the person strengthens his or her image, confidence, well-being, self-esteem, and the ability to gain recognition. The birthstone is generally the most important stone to wear. However, if the lord of first house is pretty weak, the effect of the gem related to that lord could not be strong. The effects of gemstones are subtle, but they are profound enough for most individuals to notice a positive difference.

Planetary Gemology: (Ratna-vijnana or Ratna-para-vidya) Ancient Vedic science of the relationship between 9 types of Gems and 9 Planets recognized as most important in sidereal astrology and ayurveda. Based on the "Navaratna" philosophy of Vedic birthstones. Thus planetary gemology is an ancient healing and protective art that can be used to one's advantage with the help of a Vedic astrologer.

However, many practising astrologers, wish to strengthen the weak planet by advising the client to wear a gem that signifies the weak planet in the horoscope or represents the weak Dasha lord. Therefore, one good warning is that Gems should be recommended only after studying the Vedic Horoscope and the strength of the planets in that horoscope.

The effect of gems will depend on the nature of the Planet, its dignity or strength and placement in each individual horoscope. There are two types of planets in every horoscope, known as ANUKUL-GRAHA or favorable planets, and PRATIKUL-GRAHA or unfavorable planets. Gems will act accordingly. If (for example) Sun (Surya) is well-placed in your horoscope then Sun's gem, ruby, will also act well; but if Sun is ill-placed in your chart then the Sun's gem will also be unfavorable.

When we talk about the quality of Gems that we use for astrological purpose, the first criteria is that the Gem has to be natural. This means that the Gem should not be treated or not exposed to any form of radiation, dyed, pasted or glued and chemically altered. It is also advisable to select if possible a large stone closer to 2 carats or more. Also try to select a Gem without cracks, much impurities and imperfections. Flawless gems are hard to get and a very costly issue. Therefore, one should consider buying a slightly inclusion Gem, But without Black,Brown spots and cracks.Generally it is unimportant where the Gems are worn, as long as they feel comfortable and the Gem touches the skin. The important is the quality, colour, size . If it is a cut and polished Gem the angle of the facets and the polish can also be an issue that one may have to look at as such Gems can act like a prism and reflect the cosmic rays well. The most important thing everybody should know is belief on gemstone and how well suddi, pooja, energization, mantra chantings done before wearing gemstones. Vedic rituals are very important before wearing gemstones to get optimum results. Gemstones should be worn on auspicious times told by astrologer.

  • Astrology and Science

Astrology has originated from Vedas (the oldest Hindu books of knowledge) and flourished in ancient India, lakhs of years ago. Its roots cannot be traced, but it was discussed and much regarded by all the great Indian seers like Parashara, Jaimini and others. Astrology is referred to as "Jyotish" , which means 'related to Light'. But then what is light?

The word light is indicative of knowledge, and darkness is a symbol of ignorance. Astrology lights the path of human beings and provides better guidance in molding their future.

We know that Sun is the principal source of light and heat. The rays of Sun fall on plants and produce food in them by 'photosynthesis', which is highly desirable for any plant to grow. Sun is a factor for the entire vegetation to grow on this earth and the animals and human beings are depending on it. Then , is there any surprise if Sun is called 'soul' of the universe ? Sun is also referred to as "Chakshu" of the Omnipotent. Chakshu means eyes. With eyes we can be in light. Without eyes we will be in darkness. Hence, Greeks and Egyptians called Sun as god of Astrology.

Light also refers to electro-magnetic waves or energies which are spread all over the world. There are cosmic rays which always penetrate into our earth"s atmosphere and cause disturbances in pressure and temperature on earth. Aeronomy says that tidal ways, floods and cyclones on earth are nothing but effects of reactions between various nuclear particles on the surface of Sun. So Light is most significant in this world.

There is another type of light, the light coming from various planets. This light is called radiation. This radiation always carries different types of energies. This light which comes from various planets and constellations continuously fall on all living beings on earth, since their birth till their death. We know that human brain and nervous system is a thousand times more sensitive than a photographic film. If we expose the photographic film to Sun, it gets spoiled immediately. Then why can"t we accept that the human brain and the nervous are also affected by Sun rays? We are all bathing continuously in an array of different radiations coming from different celestial bodies, and why can"t we say that those radiations will definitely affect our lives?

According to Dr. Percy Seymour [chartered member of the Institute of Physics and Fellow member of the Royal Astronomical Society, Director of the William Day Planetarium and principal lecturer in astronomy at the University of Plymouth], the solar magnetic wind of Sun is influenced by other planets which in turn leads to fluctuations in the earth"s magnetic field. Jane Blizard"s work for NASA showed evidence for heliocentric planetary conjunctions, oppositions, and certain 90" alignments giving rise to violent solar disturbances. Due to this, the fluctuations in the earth"s magnetic field will change from 0.0ci to 2.0ci (ci - International magnetic character figure), as noted by geophysicists. This means earth's magnetism will change depending on disturbances caused by solar magnetic wind. This change in earth's magnetism will bring changes in human beings - as observed by Professor Yves Rocard [Laboratory Director of Physics at the Ecole normale superieure in Paris]. Rocard devoted 30 years of his life to the study of the sensitivity of humans to magnetism. He detected reception sites in human body at the arches of the eyebrows, at the back of the skull, at the hollows of the knees, near shoulder blades and under heels. These parts are highly sensitive to magnetism. Scientists also found magnetite in human brain. Thus we can prove that the entire human body responds to planetary influences.

Radiations, light, magnetic fields, gravity etc., from different planets and constellations act upon human beings' body and mind and there by modify the way they take decisions and thus influence their future ' certainly a study is needed to establish this fact, and Astrology does this.

Mr. Arnold Meyer of the British Association for the Advancement of Science, observes that 'when the Sun and the Moon are in conjunction they are both concentrating their forces on the same part of the globe at the same time; this accounts for the abnormal conditions... This conjunction does definitely affect a child born during conditions of this nature...'

We know the oceanic waves rise to their zenith on full moon days, and they will become calm on new moon days. This is due to electro-magnetic attraction of Moon on water. When the human being's body has 65% water content, why there will not be any affect of Moon on him?

A study conducted from 1957 to 1968 in Britain revealed that most of the murders are recorded on full moon days only, thus Moon is influencing some people to lose their mental balance.

Kraft published his 'Astro-physiologie' in 1928. There he offers a list of 72 persons who were born at about the same time. All these died at the same age and in a similar way. This cannot be dismissed as mere coincidence.

Donald A. Bradley published an important work called 'Profession and Birthdate'. It is a statistical analysis of the planetary positions found at the time of birth of 2492 eminent clergymen. He has proved beyond doubt that the planetary positions greatly influence the profession of people.

Varahamihira, Aryabhatta, Bhaskara, Kalyana Varma etc' practiced Astrology along with Astronomy. Varahamihira calculated the distances of planets and gave accurate description of various constellations in the sky in his great work 'BrihatSamhita'. Aristotle wrote a paper on Palmistry in 350 B.C., in which he clearly describes a lot of subject related to lines of palm.

Even the scientists like Copernicus, Tychobrahe, Kepler, Galileo and Newton have done a lot of work in Astrology.

Just because the modern pseudo scientist did not put a stamp of approval to it, we can not say Astrology is not a science. The science is ever changing , finding new theories and opposing its own doctrines. The scientists once declared that the Sun is revolving around the Earth. After Galileo constructed the telescope, the same scientists said that the Earth is revolving round the Sun. Whether the scientists found it or not, the truth is always same. Probably, the same scientist who is criticizing Astrology today, will hug it tomorrow in reverence.

  • Education and communication problems

'Hello sir! How are you? Today the train is late by 45 minutes', please come and sit here' Mallikharjun asked Giri. He continued, 'Why are you looking worried, any problem?' Giri replied: 'Yes, Mallikharjun, my son is not doing well in his studies' He is now in his 10th class and I doubt he may not pass this year'.

Let us think. Why One student's performance is improving and the other student's slowly degrading? The reason is the planet Mercury, which is the key to mind, lord of 3rd, and 6th houses, which is Gemini and Virgo. 3rd house is for communication, thinking ability, personal ideas, logical thinking, Intellectuality, etc. And 6th house is for Service, health, practical work, methodologies, patience, clothing and dressing, food and taste of the food one likes.

According to 'Sayana', mercury is exalted in Aquarius that is 11th house.

    • If there are any adverse aspects to mercury there is an educational brake (Fail /discontinue) in his study period.
    • Retrograde Mercury in birth chart makes the child unable to speak in childhood (after 3 or 5 years, he may speak based on the condition of the mercury)
    • Mercury becomes adverse with Saturn which results in hearing problems sometimes heavily impaired also.
    • If mercury is in 12th house and having adverse aspect, trouble in early education is indicated, They can't achieve any thing in education with out brake.
    • If mercury is weak they cannot spell out what they are really thinking.
    • Lack of decision taking, shyness to talk in public, digestion problems.
    • Selfishness, liars, nervous weakness, poor dressing.
    • Abusing, mental blockade, etc by adverse mercury.
    • If mercury is well placed and having good aspects it makes journalists, editors, CA, Chemist, Mathematicians, Ambassadors, Cine dialog

The house, sign, aspects to mercury, aspects of mercury will influence the above issues.

In this article, we are not talking about retrograde effects of mercury in transit. This topic regards retrograde mercury in natal and progression charts.

Retrograde Motion: Actually no planet will have retrograde motion. It is just an apparent phenomenon which happens when seen from earth; the planets appear to go back (except sun and moon). The stages are 1. Forward to stationary 2. Stationary to retrograde, 3. Retrograde to stationary 4. Stationary to forwarding. Mercury will retrograde thrice in a year, approximately 20 to 26 days total period. The stationary period is only few hours. The approximate motion of mercury is 2 ' degrees per day.

    Mercury in quadruplicates:
    1. Mercury in Fiery signs (Aries, Leo and Sagittarius): Leadership qualities, Intellectual, Self-confidence.
      (Negative side): Egocentric mental attitudes.
    2. Mercury in Earthy signs (Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn): Practical oriented.
      (Negative side): excessive materialistic outlook.
    3. Mercury in Airy signs (Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius): Good communication skills, Theoretical knowledge.
      (Negative side): Selfish, Impractical.
    4. Mercury in Watery signs (Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces): Emotional, Fluctuated thinking and decisions. Some times they may have tendency to daydreaming and wool gathering.
    Mercury in Triplicates:
    1. Mercury in Cardinal (chara) signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn): The individual is able to decide issues quickly and effectively. Some times the decisions may be impulsive.
    2. Mercury in Fixed (stira) signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius): Slow and deliberate in making decisions. Once decision taken by them, they will not change it. Fixed attitudes.
    3. Mercury in Mutable (dwiswabhava) signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces): Flexible in making decisions, and the decisions are based on past experience.

Case I: Adverse Mercury in natal chart and retrograde in progressions: Education Delays - In this chart, Mercury is lord of 3rd and 6th house (Gemini and Virgo) in 12th house (Pisces). A square (90 degrees) aspect with Moon, which is 4th lord in 9th house Sagittarius. Square aspect between moon and mercury is square between 3rd, 6th lord to 4th lord, as per position of these two planets square between 9th to 12th houses. There is communication problems, shyness, digestion problems. He can not express clearly what he was really thinking. There are breaks/discontinues in higher education. These problems are modified by the aspects: a sextile between mercury and Saturn, A trine between moon and Uranus, Jupiter and Saturn are in own places.

The mercury goes into retrograde 13th day from his birth date, i.e. 13 years of age (progressions one day one year method) studying in 8th class he became dull in education. Before that he was getting below 10th rank. He passed with excellent scoring in 7th class common examination at mandal level. But in 10th class he got just a pass division. After he could not continue without brakes in studies. Once Mercury became direct, and since there is grace of Jupiter (Guru) he acquired two P.Gs.

Case II: Retrograde and Adverse Mercury: Delay in Speech - In this chart, Mercury is 7th and 10th lord in 6th house and receiving square aspects by mars and Jupiter, the signs are fixed signs. Mars is the 5th and 12th lord in 3rd house, Jupiter 1st lord in 9th house. He could not speak for the last 2 ' years and he will start speaking when Mercury comes into direct motion i.e. from 22.05.2003. He will speak as usually when mercury crosses the natal point i.e. 11 degrees 39 minutes in Taurus. Today, the child could not pronounce some of the words clearly.

Stationary period: mulling over of important decisions and gestation of new ideas. If Mercury makes any good aspects to any other planets during its stationary period, it is helpful to the individual in his future developments and it is the self-examination state.

Retrograde in Natal: Individuals are slow and deliberate in thinking process. Slow Grasping/ learning. Individual will get confused in making decisions.

Direct motion: Individual will have confident planning in all new activities. Business activities will also improve.

How to overcome the retrograde Mercury problems:
    1. Individuals should not depend on guess answers where negative marking is there in the examination.
    2. Read the question twice carefully before answering.
    3. Do not sign any agreements/papers with out thorough examination.
    4. Hard work and continuous reading will improve marks to the students.
    5. Prayers to lord Vishnu and chanting Vishnu sahasra namas (1000 names of Vishnu) daily will improve the condition of the child in his/her studies.
    6. Visiting temple of Sarada Devi or Durga Devi or Saraswati Devi on the day of Moola star (Star Moola comes once in a month) is auspicious.
    7. Chanting lord Hayagreeva stotram / mantra is also good.
  • Greatness of Indian Astrology

Vedas are the oldest literature and compendium of multitude of Knowledge. The history of Astrology traces back to Vedic times, lakhs of years ago from now. Astrology can be divided broadly as Siddhanta Bhaga (Calculation part) and Phalita Bhaga (Predictive part). In Rigveda, the year is divided into 12 months, the special 13th month called extra month correlates the Solar and Lunar months. In Taittireeya Brahmana, the 6 seasons are described. The details of planets as gods, solar and lunar eclipses are available in Rigveda.

The oldest available book on Astrology is 'Rigjyothisha', written by Lagadha. In this book, there are 5 types of years described, along with the ruling deities. The 2 ayanas (parts) of the year are also mentioned, along with their starting stars. Precision of equinoxes are explained. And the 27 stars are also given in this book.

There are 18 pioneers in Astrology, who contributed for its development. They are: 1. Surya, 2. Pitamaha, 3. Vyasa, 4. Vasishta, 5. Atri, 6. Parasara, 7. Kasyapa, 8. Narada, 9. Garga, 10. Mareechi, 11. Manu, 12. Angeerasa, 13. Lomasa, 14. Poulisa, 15. Chyavana, 16. Yavana, 17. Bhrigu, and 18. Saunaka.

Varahamihira (123 AD) wrote 'Brihat Samhita', a great work on Astronomy and Astrology. There are 105 chapters and 4000 verses in this book. He has shown how Astrology can be applied for the welfare of public.

Aryabhatta-I (476 AD) wrote 'Aryabhateeya', which comprise a great deal of Astronomy, Mathematics and Astrology. Even Astronomy of this book is spread to Arab countries. Aryabhatta-II (950 AD) wrote 'Mahasiddhanta', where he explained more clearly about calculation part of Astrology.

Bhaskara-I (629 AD) wrote 'Mahabhaskareeya', a book on astro-mathematics. Bhaskara-II (1114 AD) gave 'Siddhanta Siromani' where a lot of Mathematics can be found. Details of square, square root, cube, cube root, factorial values, factors of a number are explained. Details of planets, calculation of radius of earth , eclipses, and atmospheric layers ( 7 zones) above earth are discussed clearly.

A lot of other authors like Kalyana Varma, Kalidasa, Venkatesa, Neelakantha, Mantreswara, etc. have published books on Astrology.

Zodiac is the outer wheel from where the radiation from different celestial bodies is received, filtered and sent to earth. Indian Astrology links the planets and stars with gods. Gods are representatives of certain types of energies. The entire Zodiac chart is divided into 12 signs, starting from Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces. There are 4 things to be done in a human life: Dharma (righteous path), Artha (wealth), Kaama (Desire), Moksha (Unification of soul with God). These are one by one represented by the 12 houses of the zodiac. The hidden meaning is: A man should follow righteous path to achieve wealth and fulfill his desires. At the same time he must be desirous to reach God, and find ways to finally unify himself with the super soul. The potentiality to achieve this is represented step wise by the zodiac.

Theory says that Zodiac wheel starts with Aries 0 degrees, and is constant. When a top is rotating , it bends slightly and rotates. If a point is imagined on the top , it make circles. These circles will not coincide each other. There will be some deviation between each circle. Similarly, the Zodiac is also deviating slowly from its constant position. It is calculated to be around 51 seconds per year. This deviation is called Precession of equinoxes, or Ayanamsa. Indian Astrologers are not taking this Ayanamsa into account when they calculate Planet positions. So their system is called 'Nirayana'. But westerners apply this correction in their calculations. So western system is called 'Sayana' system. This is the major difference in Indian and Western Astrological worlds.

    Sayana = Nirayana + Ayanamsa.

There are 27 stars and each star has 4 padas (quarters). Thus a total of 27 x 4 = 108 star padas will will arise, which have been distributed in the zodiac. Since 12 signs are there in the Zodiac, every sign gets 9 padas. Each pada is of 3 degrees 20 minutes duration and 9 x 3deg 20min = 30 degrees. So each sign takes 30 degrees duration.

There are planets whose role is to bestow the results of past deeds, done either in this birth or carried from previous births. Planets merely transmit the results which we earlier stored in the form of radiation. There are 9 planets identified: Sun, Moon, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury, Venus , Rahu (Ascending Node) and Kethu (Descending Node). All the planets are not comfortable in all the signs. A planet is comfortable in its exaltation, or friendly or own house. Then it may give good results. A planet is not comfortable in enemy camp, and can give bad results.

Each planet aspects its opposite planet, i.e, the house and planet in 7th from it. Additionally, Jupiter has 5th and 9th aspects. Mars has 4th and 8th aspects. And, Saturn has 3rd and 10th aspects.

By observing the inter-relationships between the signs, planets, stars and their positions, we can understand the inherent capabilities of a human being, his thought process, and his weaknesses, and finally conclude what he has in store for his future. Various Dasa- systems are developed to know what planets are currently influencing a human being and promoting him to do what kind of things.

Indians call planets 'Grahas'. Graha means that which catches. Grahas are those which catch the human beings and shed their influence on them. Grahas affect all inanimate and animate objects in this world. This is the reason Grahas are also personified as gods by Indians. Another greatness of Indian Astrology lies in providing remedial measures for various problems faced by human beings. The remedies are mentioned by sages in various works and also in Vedas. But the suitability of a remedy for a case is to be judged by a competent astrologer.

Indians see Astrology in every thing. It became a part and parcel of their culture. For them Astrology is 'VedaChakshu', the guiding eye for molding their future and attaining self- realization.

  • Remedies in Astrology

    1) Lucky Gems: number one remedy said by our Maharshi`s is Gems. Only some Gems are suitable to particular horoscope. Basically Gems can be divided in to 1)Luckystones 2)Life stones 3)Yogakaraka stones. Simply wearing Gems based on star or Raasi is not the right way. If the Gem not suitable to that person, obviously leads to negative results. It is advised to wear gemstones to strengthen the weak auspicious planetary positions and the already strong planets. Different gems are recommended for different kinds of problems and these gemstones are studded in different metals. Each gemstone should be worn on its own auspicious day after chanting proper mantras. The Gem must be Genuine, natural and without doshas. Common men cannot find which Gems are Genuine. These remedial stones act in two ways; one is by its spectrum effects and other is by radioactive effects. When a ring is worn, Gem goes on continuously vibrating its power which is absorbed in the individual aura. The protective aura thus becomes powerful to resist any untoward vibrations coming from external sources. Putting Gems in pooja and wearing them in auspicious time is mandatory to get good results.

    2) Poojas: For some doshas like sarpa dosha, kala sarpa dosha, balaristam, sani dosha, angarka dosha or Kuja dosha (Manglik dosha) etc poojas are best.

    3) Homas: For some Major doshas, karmas, curses and for poorva janma sins homas are the only remedy.

    4) Remarriage: This is one of the best remedy for those who married in inauspicious vivah lagnas and for those having doshas/problems regarding married life & soubhagyam.

    5) Navagraha santhi: If any planet/planets are the reason for particular problems we need to do Graha santhi in particular day and time. This process is vary for each planet.

    6) Mantra: Mantras relate to the repeated chanting of auspicious lines or words to overcome the problems. Each root word produces a sound that activates a different center in the human body which correlates to the particular planet.

    7) Tantra: Tantra is used when the situation becomes adverse and no solution is found even by Mantra.

    8) Rudrakshas: Those who are suffering with health problems, outrages, psychological problems, perverted sexual desires etc, wearing different mukha rudrakshas are the solution.

    9) Yantra: Yantra is a mystical diagram, an instrument or an apparatus to represent gods and deities. Yantra, the most effective remedy, is used when the process of remedy has to be followed for a longer period and when it is not possible to practice other remedies. Yantra is the visible means to gain power, wealth and nullify the malefic effects of planets. Yantra needs to be purified by auspicious mantras for effective results.

We suggest the relevant vedic astrological remedies as per your stars in the horoscope and provide vedic astrology yantra and gems duly purified with the auspicious mantras. They enhance the positive aura and dispel the evil obstructions in the lives. The remedies do not bring about success directly but they just help overcome the obstacles and difficult situations. Remedies can not substitute the efforts that are mandatory to achieve the goals.

  • Who will become Rich?

There is no doubt a person will become rich if he has:
    • Will to set goals
    • Intelligent planning to reach the goal
    • Hard working nature to execute the plan

But these are not enough to become rich. There is one more element, that is luck. We can find thousands of people with the above mentioned qualities, yet lagging behind in life. The reason is lack of luck. What is luck? It is the effect of good deeds done previously either in this life or in previous birth.

How can we astrologically judge a person has sufficient luck to become rich? First of all, the person should have potentiality to set goals for himself. This can be judged from Ascendant and Ascendant lord. Next, the person should be intelligent enough to carry out the planning. This can be found from 5th house, and its lord. The place of wealth is 2nd house and its lord is giver of wealth. Finally, whether we gain profits and amass wealth is indicated by 11th house and its lord. For all these things to happen, we need luck. This is adjudged from 9th house and its lord.

So then what are the important astrological combinations which make a man rich?
    • Relation between Ascendant and 11th lords, either by combination or by aspects. This is called 'Lakshmi Yoga' by Indian astrologers, which is a symbol of a rich man.
    • Relation between 5th and 9th lords. If they are strong and in benefic places the person will be more wealthy.
    • Relation between 2nd lord and 11th lord by way of aspects or combination. If they are placed in quadrants or trines or in exaltation, the person will be equal to 'Kubera', the god of wealth.
    • Relation between 5th , 9th and 11th lords or bhavas.
    • Ascendant, 2nd and 11th houses are aspected respectively by their owners or occupied by their owners.
    • Ascendant lord having relation with 2nd and 9th lords.
    • Ascendant in 2nd house, 2nd lord in 11th house, and 11th lord in 2nd house - is called Dhana Yoga, means a good combination for wealth.
    • Ascendant lord and 2nd lord exchange their places.
    • 9th and 10th lords combine either in 9th house or 10th house.
    • 9th lord and 11th lords exchange their houses.
    • Benefics in quadrants and trines, where as malefics in 3-6-11 houses is said to make a person a king.
    • Ascendant or Ascendant lord is aspected by several benefics.

These are only some of the important combinations mentioned in standard texts. There are other combinations. But any how the places 1-5-9-11 and their lords greatly influence a person to acquire wealth. For example, in the horoscope of Indian Steel king and one of the richest people in the world, JRD Tata, we can find the following combinations:

    • 5th and 9th houses are aspected by Jupiter, the most benefic planet.
    • 5th , 9th and 11th lords in quadrants.
    • 2nd and 11th lords have mutual aspects.
    • 2nd and 5th lords combine.
  • Saddam Hussain Horoscope

Entire world knows Saddam Hussein as an Iraqi dictator who ruthlessly crushed all his opposition in his own country, launched a fierce war against Iran, fuelled gulf-war, and dared to fight against USA.

The following are the important events in the life of Saddam Hussein:

    • Saddam Hussein was born to a peasant family on April 28, 1937.
    • Joined Baath Arab Socialist Party in 1957.
    • Became vice president of Iraq from 1968 to 1979.
    • Took full power over Iraq as the president in 1979, from 16/7/1979 to 9/4/2003.
    • Ordered invasion of Iran in 1980. The Iran-Iraq war was fought from 1980 to 1988, killing 1 million people.
    • Ordered invasion of Kuwait on 2/8/1990. USA attacked Iraq in 1991 (Gulf War).
    • USA began bombing Baghdad on 20/3/2003 and took over Baghdad on 9/4/2003.
    • Saddam Hussein was captured by USA forces on 13/12/2003.
    • Trial began in October 2005.
    • Was sentenced to death on 5/11/2006.
    • Was hanged to death on 30/12/2006.

According to Indian Vedic Astrology, let us see which factors in his horoscope have influenced him and moulded his life to become a stern dictator and to have such a pathetic ending. The following are his birth details:

Full Name: Saddam Hussein al-Majid al-Tikriti
Date of Birth: 28th, April 1937.
Time of Birth: 8.55am or 6.00pm.(We confirmed only 8.55am is the correct time)
Place of Birth: al-Awja, near Tikrit, Iraq

His Ascendant(lagna) sign is Gemini whose lord Mercury in 12th house, representing Saddam is very intelligent and a spendthrift. Mercury is in Taurus, with Kethu and the lord of Taurus is exalted. This represents that he is fond of extreme sexual pleasures. His 7th lord is Jupiter in 8th which indicates second-wife. The lord of 8th is Saturn who is with exalted Venus, clearly represents he will have multiple marriages or multiple spouses.

His 5th house lord Venus in exaltation represents that he will have more surviving female-issues. Saturn with Venus gives an indication that his male children may not survive. This is confirmed by Rahu's aspect on Venus.

His 10th house which symbolizes his profession is occupied by exalted Venus and 9th lord Saturn. Parasara says: "If 9th lord is in 10th, the native will be respected by the world, virtuous, either a king or equal to the king or a soldier." Note that Venus and Saturn are best benefics for his horoscope. These planets put him always in the top position in his career. 10th lord being Jupiter, will give him a career in politics or a career linked with religion. The 11th house Aries represents profits from career. This place is occupied by exalted Sun, aspected by Retrograde Mars indicating again political career and authority in the government. Venus,Saturn,Sun, Mars will no doubt make him a deep thinker with stubborn decisions, a martinet and a born army general. Rahu conjoined with Moon will make him take wrong decisions.

His Ascendant lord Mercury is in 12th house, combined with Kethu and aspected by Retrograde Mars, debilitated Moon and Rahu from 6th house. This single observation shows crystal clear that he has harm(6th house -harm from enemity) to his life(Ascendant lord in 12th) through these multiple planets. Multiple planets here represent Coalition forces led by different countries. The Kala-sarpa yoga to his Ascendant lord, in 12th from Ascendant represents danger to self either by poision or by hanging. Mars aspect to Ascendant lord represents a sudden accident. Observe Mars, Moon and Rahu in the place of Scorpio, which is called Randhra sthan, the place representing a hole. This denotes that he would stay for some time before his death in a hole. This is nothing but the bunker where he was caught by the Coalition forces and this also represents the narrow prison cell alloted to him after his capture.

Before we get into minute details, let us once again remember the benefic and malefic planets in Saddam's horoscope, as:

    Benefics: Venus, Saturn, Sun
Malefics: Jupiter, Mars, Moon, Rahu, Kethu
    Neutral: Mercury

Saddam Hussein was born to a peasant family on April 28, 1937.
This is clearly denoted by his 9th lord(father) which is Saturn. Saturn represents peasants who live on agriculture.

Joined Baath Arab Socialist Party in 1957.
Mercury-Saturn period from 5/2/1957 to 16/10/1959 . Since Saturn is lord of Bhagya sthan(place of Luck) and located in the place of career, he shows new avenues to improve his career.

Became vice president of Iraq from 1968 to 1979.
Venus-Venus started from 16/10/1966 to 14/2/1970, who is the best benefic and in the place of career, will give a turn to his career by making him the vice president. The major period of Venus up to 16/10/1986 (20 years) will give him non-stop rise in his career.

Took full power over Iraq as the president in 1979, from 16/7/1979 to 9/4/2003.
Venus-Saturn period started from 16/8/1979. Note that both Venus and Saturn are the best benefics in his horoscope. Also Venus has 'Maalvya Yoga' which is one of the top five yogas recognized by Sage Parasara. Parasara says:"A person who is born with Maalvya Yoga will have a graceful body, eyes of a woman, handsome, powerful, meritorious; blessed with wife and children, vehicles and wealth; learned, knows the meaning of the sacred texts; knows how to use his energy, capacity and counsel; liberal; fond of other women; lives up to 77 years."

Is there any doubt that Venus-Saturn period makes him a ruler of a country?

Ordered invasion of Iran in 1980. The Iran-Iraq war was fought from 1980 to 1988, killing 1 million people. Ordered invasion of Kuwait on 2/8/1990.
Venus-Saturn started from 16/8/1979, and by 1986 the major period of Venus ended. After Venus, the major period of Sun will start. These planets influence Saddam, making him greedy about showing his power and authority till the end of Sun period on 15/10/1992.

Sun is in labha sthan (place of profits) and symbolizes power and governance. He is aspected by retrograde Mars who is an army person. So this combination will provoke him to prove himself as the most powerful ruler. So he waged a war against Iran, and later against Kuwait. Of course Mars aspect on Sun is not good.

USA began bombing Baghdad on 20/3/2003 and took over Baghdad on 9/4/2003. Saddam Hussein was captured by USA forces on 13/12/2003.
Trouble started to Saddam when Mars period started from 15/10/2002. Note that Mars is highly inimical to his horoscope. Mars represents his enemies. When Mars-Rahu started on 14/3/2003, the trouble aggravates and the effect is USA took over Baghdad. By the time Mars-Rahu ends on 31/3/2004, he was caught by USA forces.

    Trial began in October 2005.
Mars-Saturn from 7/3/2005 to 16/4/2006 is a period of high tensions and anger.

Was sentenced to death on 5/11/2006.
Was hanged to death on 30/12/2006.
Mars-Mercury-Rahu started on 4/11/2006. Mars is lord of 6th located in 6th. This represents a powerful enemy. Mercury is Ascendant lord, representing self. Mars and Mercury are arch rivals in Astrology. Rahu is implementing Kala-sarpa yoga representing death by hanging or by poisoning. In Saddam's case, this Kala-sarpa yoga occured for 6th(enemy place) and 12th(place representing losses and death).
Mars-Mercury-Jupiter started on 28/12/2006. Jupiter debilitated in ayuh sthan(place of longevity) will take off the longevity.

  • Sins & sufferings

Often we hear people saying "I did not commit any bad deeds, but still Iam suffering from so and so disease, why this happened to me? God is merciless."

First thing we should understand is that there is no connection between your actions and God. If you are virtuous, you will enjoy riches and happiness in life. If you commit sins, you will get suffering and disease. All that is important is your actions (karma). And your karma may affect you either in this birth or in the next birth, it doesn't matter, but it affects you definitely.

The actions (karma), people do is binding the people to experience the effects. Let us take an example. A person is intensely in love with his pet dog. One day, the dog died suddenly, and he could not forget it for years together. As a result, he will take birth as a dog in the next birth and enjoys the company of the same dog which again takes birth. So, if X killed Y, then in the next birth, Y is forced to kill X. In this way, because of their karma, people are taking birth after birth. They do some karma in one birth and to experience its effects, they take the next birth. This is a cyclic process and there is no way to come out of the chain. Only an enlightened person can brake this chain.

So, be enlightened. I am providing description of some sins along with their effects. If you are a victim of some suffering given in the list, you did the indicated sin in your previous birth. If you do any of these sins now, you aught to experience the suffering in your next birth.

Poorva janmaarjitam paapam vyaadhi roopena baadhate |

    Tachhantihi Oushadhairdhaanaih japahoma kriyaadibhihi ||

The results of previous deeds (karma) will manifest into diseases. To alleviate them, we should use medicines, offer donations, recite mantras, and worship deities etc. And this is not just enough. You should stop commiting sins.
