• Robert Mayhew

      Robert is the principal of Community Company, a real estate development company specializing in feasibility, planning, and implementation of land development and multiuse commercial projects. Community Company’s expertise lies with the act of place making and relies on the fundamental premise of creating long-term value from a well-executed demand-based development strategy.

      Robert has extensive experience in master planned and resort communities as well as high profile infill sites. In these, the artful planning of commercial assets and the execution of residential assets synergized to fundamentally enhance the value of the overall property. Prior to establishing Community Company in 2009, Robert oversaw the planning and development, marketing, branding, and management of DMB’s commercial properties.

      Located in Scottsdale, Arizona, DMB is a diversified real estate investment and development firm with holdings throughout the Western United States. DMB’s projects include resort/recreation and primary home communities, country clubs, signature commercial properties, hotels, health clubs, and spas. Prior to that, Robert was a Vice President and Treasurer of Newhall Land in Valencia, California where he had a similar role in planning and developing the commercial components within a large-scale master planned community.

      Robert holds a Masters of Business Administrative (MBA) and a Masters of Real Estate Development (MRED) from the University of Southern California. His undergraduate work was completed at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo where he received a B.A. in Political Science.

    • Steve Kellenberg

      Steve has 35 years of experience in large-scale community design having worked on a number of nationally respected projects with the nation’s leading developers.

      For five years starting in 2012, Steve was Senior Vice President at the Irvine Company, the largest west coast community developer, heading the company’s Community Planning Department. There he focused on large-scale redevelopment in Silicon Valley and on the Irvine Ranch to lead planning for over 6,000 dwellings and several million square feet of commercial.

      Prior to joining the Irvine Company, he worked at EDAW and then AECOM where he consulted with companies such as DMB, Newhall Land and Farming, Rancho Mission Viejo, Shea Homes, Lewis Companies and others including several in the Middle East, China, Singapore, and South America.

      Steve is also respected in the field of conservation development, which is an ecologically- driven approach to land development that utilizes conservation easements in partnership with third party land trusts to optimize development potential in balance with sensitive open space conservation. He has independently completed two such projects in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada in California.

      Steve’s projects have been awarded two Urban Land Institute (ULI) National Awards of Excellence and six Grand Awards by the Pacific Coast Builders Conference. He has contributed to two books published by ULI: Great Planned Communities and Sustainable Planned Communities and The 21 st Century New Town, which is currently being published by Harvard University.

      He graduated from Iowa State University in Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture and from Harvard University, with honors, in Urban Design. He recently completed his 20 th year of teaching in the Masters of Real Estate Development program at USC.
