Music Therapy

Music therapy is a complementary therapeutic use of music, by a board certified Music Therapist, to address behavioral, social, communicative, physical, sensory-motor, psychological and/or cognitive functioning. Music Therapists provide a variety of musical experiences in an intentional and developmentally appropriate manner to affect positive changes in behavior and facilitate the development of important skills. Studies show that children with autism respond very well to music. They often learn better and are more motivated with music.

Art Therapy

Art therapy offers visual activities developed for children with autism, Asperger Syndrome and related disabilities. Designed to stimulate the child’s senses through manipulation and exploration, arouse curiosity and creativity, and develop a sense of mastery.

Cognitive Therapy (0-5 Years)

A professional cognitive therapist conducts activities to increase attention span, develop cause and affect relationships, problem solving, foster attending skills, develop communication skills, stimulate environmental awareness, and to reinforce all areas of development.

Floor time

Technically, Floortime is just one component of a larger comprehensive treatment approach called the “Developmental, Individual-Difference, Relationship-Based (DIR) Model,“ developed by psychiatrist Stanley Greenspan and psychologist Serena Weider. The Floortime component of DIR involves working with children at their current developmental level and inducing them to interact and engage with others. This often requires the parent or professional to get down on the floor with a child - hence the term “Floortime.” Practitioners follow the child’s lead, using intrinsic motivation to help the child move up the developmental ladder.

Social Language Group Therapy

Language therapy within a group context has been shown to be useful in children with language disorders. The primary purpose of intervention would be to help children develop social interaction skills, language skills and cognitive-social knowledge which would enable them to participate more successfully in peer contacts and their academic environment. Speech, language and social interaction goals are targeted in a variety of group contexts, including theme-related activities, stories, games, crafts and group routines (e.g. show-and-tell, snack). The goals are targeted within language based activities which are meaningful for the children. This maximizes motivation, functional communication and generalization.
