Franquette Walnut is an old French variety. The small-fruited internal weight 5.3 g harvests late. It has very good quality light kernel. Trees are large. Vigor is moderate to high and tree shape is upright. Chandler and Hartley was selected as pollinator varieties.
Cisco
Late leafing, relatively small tree, used as pollenizer for Chandler and Howard. Nut and kernel similar to Franquette. Harvest Season within fruit type very late.
Serr
Large Payne-type nut with very high kernel percentage, high quality, and light color. The tree is very vigorous when young and gr.ows rapidly. The nuts are more highly resistant to sunburn damage than those of any of the other selections. Therefore, the variety is especially well adapted to the hotter parts of the San Joaquin and Sacramento valleys, wherever late spring frosts are not a hazard.
Chandler
It is large, smooth, and oval shaped with a good shell seal. These walnuts are known around the world and are highly prized by buyers for their extra light and high quality kernels. Harvested mid to late season, Chandler walnuts provide one of the highest kernel yields of any of the varieties.
Howard
Late-leafing, consistent heavy production. Large, round, well-sealed nut with light kernels. Smaller tree than Chandler.
Hartley
Harvest mid to late. Consistent producer with high quality nuts. Leafing date is 16 days after Payne. Less susceptible to coddling moth and blight. Nut is large. Shell well sealed. Tree is medium to large, moderately spreading. Scharsch Franquette works well as a pollinizer.
